River Reader Show Saturday, May 10! - May 15, 2008

We had a great time on Second Saturday in Lexington! The cool rainy weather kept the crowds down some, but the people who came in were attentive and complimentary-they even laughed at my corny accordion joke! Thanks again to Pat and Gary Worth, their staff and all of the people who came to check out our show. See you in July!

More tunes added! - March 11, 2008

Hello all,
Just wanted to let everyone know that you can now listen to all of the tunes on our cd "Welcome to Rancho" right on this website! Simply click on the "Music" button on the left to listen and don't forget to read the stories that go with the songs.
If you would like to download any tunes or the whole album, click right over to CD Baby, iTunes, or Digstation to purchase. Please remember, however, that in most cases recordings don't capture the excitement and intimacy of live performances, especially in our case. We have many new songs not yet recorded and we'd like for you to hear them.
Please continue to check back in and support not only Bros K, but anyone who goes on the road to play music for the love of it. Sign our guestbook and leave us comments on our Myspace page.
Keep up the good work, and continue to support independent music. Peace.

Lyrica Beck... - August 27, 2007

I knew her, but not as well as most. Not really. I worked with her for a very short time at 7th Heaven in Sedalia, MO. She was a very fun girl, and a very sweet girl with a terrific wit, and whether I knew her very well or not, I will miss her. We all will. Lyrica, whether you're in Heaven, or you're a tree spawning your first branch, I hope that you have found peace.

Broadway Oyster Bar Diary - August 8, 2007

I had the time of my life at this wonderful indoor/outdoor jubilee of island happiness. Mapquest sent us screaming down the road past the venue, making us turn around at a very “screw you hippie” Dairy Queen. Could have been the 4-hour drive that impaired our directional sense, too. Who really knows? I’m blaming Mapquest. Once we got back on track, the venue was only a couple of blocks up the road, with masterful Busch Stadium shadowing our every load-in move. Set up was easy, because Travis from “Folk N’ Bluesgrass” was running our sound. Travis also got us the gig. Thanks buddy. Once the initial sound check was completed, we had about 15 minutes to have a beer, a smoke, and endorse the very tiny, but brilliant mosaic bathrooms. The 6 o’clock crowd was pretty mellow, so we decided on a laid-back, sit-down set for the first hour or so. I started with “Boredom Revisited” for the first time in public. Kind of nerve-racking, considering the only people who’ve actually ever told me that they like the song, are members of the band. Seemed to go over vaguely well, though. After that, we slid through the first hour of the show, playing our sit-down songs to the 6 o’clock dinner rush. As the night progressed into 9 o’clock, the crowd became more and more appreciative, and into our music. Also as the night progressed, I became more and more delirious and very, very loopy as we’re jamming to our 8-minute version of “Stepping Stone” (which was on the album, but those Goddamn fake drums just screwed it all up.) Rob’s going crazy on the solos, and Becka and I are dancing and screaming the words into the sweat-coated Beta 58s. Did I mention it was the hottest show I’ve ever played? Jesus Christ. We’d have been cooler had we just gone ahead and played in the kitchen, which by the way, smelled fucking amazing. But I digress. After the 2nd encore, we pushed on through our protest song “Pride” and exited the stage feverish, content, and even loopier. I can’t stress that enough. Thank God for Bev and Chuck’s offer to overthrow their house in Bourbon, MO for the night. A 4-hour car ride home that night might have narrated the end for the Brothers K Band as you know it. A great big thanks is in order for the crowd, you were astounding. Best damn show I’ve ever been a part of. Thanks again to Travis, we’ll see you on September 8th. Same Bros K time, same Bros K channel.
Peace,
Chris

Colgate Country Showdown Diary - July 20, 2007

Ahh, the Colgate Country Showdown in Marshall, MO. A contest that encourages original music. Please keep that in mind. Where do I start? 10 contestants were involved in this event, and only 2 of those acts performed songs that they wrote, or for that matter, played their own instruments. And yes, we were one of those acts. The evening started out with a sound check at 5:00 pm. Hot…But we found a shady area, set up our lawn chairs, and waited out the skipping of contestants CDs, and the forgetting of words. You see, 8 out of 10 of these acts sang to a CD. The other original group ran through the beginning of one of their songs, to make sure the levels were good, and that everyone could hear. Sounded great to me. Then it was our turn for sound check. We blazed through the first half of “Untitled,” then through 2/3 of “Lost Love.” To our astonishment…applause…at sound check. Goddamn, when you get an applause at the sound check for “America’s number 1 country music talent search,” you might think it’ll go pretty good during the actual contest…ha. After the contestants changed their clothes, mingled with all the people, and sparkled their skin to oblivion, the show started. Bare in mind, we hung out by the Harley Davidson that was being given away this whole time, basking in our hermitness with our own people. The show started at 8:00 pm, and we were second. Each act would try to astound the audience, as well as the soccer mom judges, with two songs. Remember how I said we were only one of two acts who wrote material played for this event? Was BMI notified of this event? I wonder…We strapped on our guitars and presented our two song show for these soccer-fanatical-mothers of plaid. The crowd seemed to really love our material, especially all of the good folks at KMMO radio out of Marshall. But sadly, it did no good. Out of the categories to be judged on: Marketability, Originality, Stage Presence, and Original Music (being awarded three bonus points for original music) we couldn’t even place out of three. The three who did place however, sang to CDs. The contest that encourages original music, and who there-in awards extra bonus points for that original music, just didn’t see how the two acts who sang original music should get any kind of recognition for that fact. And I’m not sure how originality plays into singing someone else’s Top 40 Country songs that already plague the airwaves of your everyday radio station. I guess I’m bitter, and I probably shouldn’t be, considering the place and event that it was to begin with. We just wanted a little exposure, so maybe a few more people would know we’re here, and would acknowledge what we are doing. And I believe we achieved that. So, local people reading this, if you feel the desire (and I hope that you do) go ahead and call our friends at KMMO radio, and request the Brothers K Band. And maybe next year, if we enter, we’ll play them some music they can relate to: “Karaoke Hell.” For those of you who came to support us, we thank you. You are why we do what we do. We don’t sit through two hours of a 95-degree sound check for unqualified judges, we do it for you. Thank you guys, and maybe we’ll see you at next year’s Colgate Karaoke Showdown.
Peace,
Chris

Baltimore Bend Show Diary - July 2, 2007

The buzzer wakes me up at 8:00. As it is for most people, straight to the bathroom. I look left through the window. Rain. Lots and lots of rain. Today is the day that we’ve all been waiting for. We get 2 ½ hours to play our original music for local friends, family, and anyone wishing to come see us. We’re scheduled a few miles out of Waverly, MO at 2:00 pm. Problem is, our show is outside. Panic. We don’t want to re-schedule, we want to play. A call from Sarah at the winery ensures they still want us to. But where…Rob and I shoot to the truck, and wade through the highway to the house of wine.
Still raining…
Sarah is waiting for our opinion on setting up on the front porch. Plenty of room. A tarp may need to be hung to keep the equipment from ruining. Stress relieved. Now all we have to do is pack up the P.A. and instruments, cover everything we can’t fit in the car with trash bags, drive to the winery, set it all up and play. No big deal. The few who arrive, we thank you. You were one of the best crowds we’ve ever had. Appreciative, polite, and into our music. We’re not your typical party band. We spew our innermost thoughts, feelings, and personal stories directly at anyone who is willing to sit down and listen. I feel our best show to date. I know I say that a lot, but as you play more and more with your wife and father, each show gets more comfortable, and each verse gets more meaningful with every banter. I love it. However…
Still raining…
2 ½ hours wash away down the stream in front of the porch and our time is through. Wonderful time. Thanks again to everybody who came out to see us despite the very aggressive downpour. It means a lot to us. Oh, and congrats to Ashtyn (I realize he can’t read this yet) for the baby contest…he won. Damn right he did. After we relax with a bottle of post-show wine, it’s tear-down time. Very smooth and easy. Tarp everything back up, and go home.
Still raining…
Man…it didn’t stop until the sun was going down. Hell it might as well had just kept on. A minute and a half of sunshine 3 hours after we play? At least we got some sun I guess. Sure as hell made the sky look drawn. That’s fine with me. Thanks again to Sarah and everybody at Baltimore Bend Winery. Try the Arrowhead Red.
Peace,
Chris
